Traditional Chinese Herbs

Chinese Herbal Medicine is a very powerful form of treatment that works wonderfully together with Acupuncture.

The foundation of the use of Chinese Herbs can be traced back to least 5000 years ago, originally based on clinical experience. These days we have the advantage of combining modern medical research with ancient knowledge to elicit the best clinical outcome.

The Chinese Materia Medica contains over 3000 substances, around 450 of which are commonly used in Chinese Herbal Medicine in Australia. The majorities are of a plant-based origin including seeds, flowers, roots, leaves, twigs and bark; as well as a few minerals and animal products. A few examples you may recognize include peppermint, chrysanthemum, dandelion, ginger, cinnamon, cardamom, red dates, goji berries, licorice, ginseng, astragalus and rehmannia. The herbs possess their own unique qualities such as flavour and temperature, which allow them to influence the body in many different ways.

A specific herbal formula is selected and then the herbal ingredients are modified according to your individual presenting symptoms and diagnosis. A holistic approach is used to address the underlying cause of your condition and effect long-term change. It is important to note that Chinese Herbal Medicine can have a very strong effect on the body and must be taken according to instruction and prescribed by a registered practitioner.

Herbs prescribed at Blue Lotus Healing are in the processed form of granules and pills to provide the ease and convenience of minimal preparation time (simply add boiling water!).

All herbs used are of the highest quality and suppliers must comply with strict TGA standards. Traditional remedies involving endangered species and substances from unethically harvested sources are not used. If you have any questions or concerns about the safety or use of Chinese herbs please feel free to discuss this with your practitioner.
